Iran is one of the unique countries in the world in terms of strategic and climatic location that has an area of 1648,000 square kilometers and has a changeable climate with various climates from north to south and from east to west. Poverty should not be seen in a country with so many God-send gifts. While current social problems are due to not using forces to use these blessings and gifts.
Iran has a population of 80 million and 17 million are students and millions of people of its population are university students and professionals, whose number is increasing yearly and join the lines of job seekers. 24 million people in the country live in rural areas who live in very difficult conditions and many of them are migrating to cities. Population growth statistics reveal that 1.5 million poverty is added to the country’s population annually so that it will reach 140 million people in 2050. According to the stated cases, it is highly apparent that recognizing the potential facilities and wealth of society is the most immediate action to improve the situation, consequently, investment in agriculture is the only possible way.
About 90 billion cubic meters of water is currently extracted yearly and is available to us, which is higher than 3% of the total water that is extracted worldwide. These figures explain that Iran is a rich country in terms of water and soil. But the irrigated lands of Iran are about 7.5 million hectares, which is less than 5% of the total area of the country, while between 30 to 50 million hectares are estimated to be the potential lands for agriculture, in other words, it is possible to use between 20 to 30% of the total area for cultivation.
88 billion cubic meters of water is extracted yearly that about 83 billion cubic meters are used in the agricultural division, which unhappily, 63 billion cubic meters is wasted. Currently, it is obvious that the solution is to prevent water wastage. The main losses are mainly inside the farm, which includes 70 to 90% of water losses.
Sprinkler irrigation can achieve efficiency up to 70% and drop irrigation can achieve efficiency up to 95%, i.e., up to 20% in the sprinkler irrigation systems and up to 5% in the drop irrigation system while irrigating the farms using the surface method is not higher than 50% even by spending excessive costs and leveling of Sprinkler irrigation lands irrigation and is even less than 35% in the traditional situation where most of our lands are irrigated in the same way. This means that if we do not use sprinkler and drop irrigation methods, 65% of farm water will be wasted and the wasted rate will not be higher than 75% by considering water wasted in transmission canals. Accordingly, using pressurized irrigation systems enables farmers to prevent water losses and achieve economic growth that helps us to achieve sustainable economic and social development.
The drop irrigation system is one of the best fittings in order to prevent unnecessary water consumption and keep gardens and trees green, that you can implement without the requirement for complex assembly or installation. Drop irrigation considerably saves water consumption and reduces irrigation costs. This system is highly helpful, especially for farmers due to the problem of water shortage. In drop irrigation, a very small amount of water, which means 1 to 10 liters per hour, is spread on the surface or under the soil.
